Your day starts early with a morning departure from Dar es Salaam—either via a private 4×4 safari vehicle (approx. 4-hour drive) or a short charter flight to Saadani Airstrip. Upon arrival at the park gate, you’ll meet your professional safari guide and begin your game drive across the savannah and coastal woodlands. As the sun rises, animals emerge from their hiding places—giraffes feeding on acacia trees, herds of impala grazing, and warthogs darting through the bush. The cool morning hours offer the best chance of spotting large mammals, so have your camera ready for spontaneous sightings.
Midday brings a chance to explore deeper into the park, perhaps along the Wami River, where hippos wallow in the shallows and crocodiles lounge along the banks. A picnic lunch will be served at a scenic spot—either along the riverbanks or near the beach, where you can enjoy the unique view of wildlife meeting the ocean. After lunch, you may choose to relax on the beachside or opt for a boat safari (subject to conditions) to explore the mangroves and waterways teeming with birdlife like fish eagles, storks, and kingfishers. The tranquil river safari offers a refreshing contrast to the rugged game drive.
As the temperatures cool, take one final drive through the park to search for animals in the golden afternoon light. Saadani’s open terrain makes for excellent photography, especially as elephants or buffaloes may wander near the beach. After your safari, return to Saadani gate for your journey back—either by road or a short return flight to Dar es Salaam. You’ll arrive by early evening, filled with memories of Tanzania’s only park where the savannah meets the sea.
