Safari
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a warm welcome awaits you. After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, meet your safari guide and transfer to your lodge in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short town tour or relax at the lodge amidst lush gardens and views of Mount Meru. Take time to recover from your journey and get briefed on the safari adventure ahead.
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but ecologically diverse park known for its groundwater forests, acacia woodlands, and the alkaline lake that attracts thousands of flamingos. Enjoy a game drive searching for tree-climbing lions, elephants, giraffes, and hippos. Break for a scenic picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your wildlife exploration. Late in the afternoon, head to your accommodation in Karatu for dinner and relaxation.
Today is dedicated to cultural immersion. Travel to Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe bushmen and Datoga blacksmiths. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll have the unique opportunity to join the Hadzabe on a morning hunt and learn about their hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Visit the Datoga tribe to witness traditional metalworking techniques. Enjoy a rustic lunch with the community before returning to your lodge in Karatu. The experience provides deep insight into Tanzania’s indigenous heritage.
Day 4: Karatu to Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the famous Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” This collapsed volcanic caldera hosts nearly every species of East African wildlife, including lions, rhinos, elephants, and flamingos on the crater lake. Spend a full day on a game drive inside the crater with a picnic lunch by the hippo pool. In the late afternoon, ascend and drive to your lodge set on the crater rim or nearby highlands.
After breakfast, begin your scenic drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area toward Serengeti National Park. En route, stop at Maasai villages or the Olduvai Gorge (optional) to explore Tanzania’s ancient human history. Upon entering the Serengeti, enjoy your first game drive through the central Seronera region—rich in predators and permanent wildlife. Capture the golden light of the savannah as you arrive at your camp for dinner.
Day 6: Full Day in Serengeti National Park
Today you’ll enjoy a full-day game drive in the Serengeti. Depending on the season, track the wildebeest migration or focus on resident wildlife such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and elephants. The park’s open plains and kopjes (rocky outcrops) create excellent photography opportunities. Break for a picnic lunch or return to camp for a hot meal. In the evening, relax under starry skies around a campfire.
Venture deeper into either the northern or southern Serengeti, depending on the time of year and wildlife movement. This allows you to follow the migration or find less-traveled regions with thriving animal populations. Enjoy encounters with hyenas, giraffes, and herds of buffalo. Your guide will tailor the day based on sightings and your interests. Return to your camp as the sun sets across the savannah.
After an early breakfast, depart Serengeti and drive to Lake Natron, a stark but beautiful alkaline lake located in the Rift Valley near the Kenya border. The area is home to thousands of lesser flamingos and dramatic landscapes of volcanic hills and escarpments. Check in to your remote camp and enjoy a guided walk to nearby waterfalls or flamingo viewing.
Spend the day exploring Lake Natron’s unique ecosystem. In the morning, hike to the Ngare Sero waterfalls, a scenic trail through volcanic gorges. In the afternoon, walk along the lake’s shores for flamingo spotting and photography. Learn how the highly alkaline lake supports specialized birdlife in such a harsh environment. Enjoy the serenity and surreal views of Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano sacred to the Maasai.
Leave Lake Natron and head south to Tarangire National Park, known for its massive baobab trees and large elephant herds. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive where you may see lions, zebras, wildebeests, and more. Tarangire is a seasonal refuge for migratory animals and features the Tarangire River, a critical water source during dry months.
Spend a full day exploring the diverse habitats of Tarangire. Your game drive may include riverine forests, savannah plains, and termite mound-dotted landscapes. Watch for elusive leopards, cheetahs, and over 500 bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint and continue your wildlife search in the afternoon. Return to your lodge in the evening for a farewell bush dinner.
After breakfast, drive back to Arusha with optional stops at local markets or a cultural center. Depending on your flight time, enjoy a day room or lunch at a local restaurant before transferring to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure. Say goodbye to your guide and reflect on an unforgettable 12-day journey through the heart of Tanzania.
